Did you know you should check your pH and chlorine levels on at least a weekly basis? They are the two most important chemicals to keep your eye on. Chlorine levels should be between 2.0 – 4.0 ppm, and the pH should be between 7.2 – 7.8. Here is a quick reference to possible problems if the water in your pool does not appear as it should:
Problem Possible Cause
Cloudy, dull water pH is too high, the filter is dirty, or metals in the water
Cloudy, green water Green algae
Black and/or dark spots Black algae
Yellow Slime Yellow algae
Clear, Green water Dissolved copper from pipes/heater
Stains & Rust Metals in water, unbalanced water
Calcium, scale deposits pH or alkalinity too high, calcium too high
Skin & eye irritation Combined chlorine level too high, pH too low or too high
Chlorine odor Combined chlorine level too high
Scum & odors Grease and oil from swimmers
With all of these, feel free to bring in a sample of your water to our showroom, where we will test your water for free and provide you with recommendations. It is important to have a full test done by a pool professional on a monthly basis to keep your pool looking beautiful year-round!
